The cameo technique on this necklace is hand carved in red carnelian and hand molded in sterling silver, with a silver chain.
The Urartu Kingdom thrived in Eastern Anatolia from the 9th to the 6th century BC. The Urartians placed significant value on amulets, which they believed offered various forms of support. Animal figures like lions, bulls, and eagles were commonly found in Urartian amulets, symbolizing various virtues. Additionally, images of Urartian deities such as Haldi, Teisheba, and Shivini adorned these pieces, reflecting their cultural beliefs.
Amulets have held a meaningful role in daily life throughout history, serving as symbols of various aspirations. They were thought to bring a sense of connection and reassurance to their wearers. From ancient times to the present, people have carried these items as a source of comfort and inspiration.
